MBA Faculty Spotlight

This series will shine a light on the faculty behind the Henley Executive MBA. The people teaching, leading and convening on each module bring experience not only from their academic experience and extensive research, but from real-world business too.

Dr Peder Greve is Associate Professor in International Business and Postgraduate Research Director of International Business and Strategy. His International Business with Global Immersion Study module allows our Executive MBA cohort to consult on live case studies with US tech startups or South Africa NGOs, developing a global expansion strategy. This enables our cohort to understand international development challenges while working with inspiring leaders.

Where did you study and work before coming to Henley?

Before coming to Henley I was at the University of St Gallen in Switzerland, where I worked in research, teaching, and consulting during the first years after completing my PhD at the same university.

What areas of research do you focus on and why?

In my research, I am interested in the role of strategic leaders and how their individual backgrounds and experiences shape the strategy and performance of the companies they lead. I find it particularly fascinating to study the human element of strategy formation, as we still have only a limited understanding of the interface between individuals and organisations in the world of business.

What module do you teach and what do you hope the cohort takes away from it?

In the Executive MBA Global, I teach the International Business with Global Immersion Study module. In this module, students get the opportunity to apply the concepts and frameworks of International Business to a live immersive case project by working in international consulting teams and supporting the CEO of a US tech startup in the development of an international expansion strategy. This is a unique immersive learning experience that I hope will stay long in the memories of our students after they have graduated with their MBAs.

Why would you recommend doing an MBA at Henley?

The Henley MBA offers what I think is a unique blend of personal development, immersive learning, and state-of-the-art management knowledge – and not least delivered by engaging tutors against the inspiring backdrop of our beautiful Greenlands campus in Henley-on-Thames! A particular highlight of the programme is the two complementary immersive learning experiences with international study trips. First, in the International Business module, we give students the opportunity to travel to the US and dive into the immense challenge of going global with a US tech startup. This is followed by the South Africa trip with the Reputation and Responsibility module, which enables students to gain a deep understanding of international development challenges whilst working alongside inspiring NGO leaders.

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?

Outside of work, I coach my daughter’s U10 football team,so I would love to have dinner with the England Women’s manager, Sarina Wiegman, from whom I would surely have a lot to learn about girls’ football coaching!
